Training for my 18 year old

"All" development these days html javascript framework(react) front end... backend varies a bit.... if I was to pick a demo... AWS serverless with fancy enough secure auth login. Java or python on javascript/Node.js.

(or javascript electron / vscode for desktop. )

javascript framework beyond basic chatgpt cut and past out of scope for summer set up. ie tiny bit of react plus forms / javascript enough for front end.

Certs: (my oracle certs were from 1 week courses and notes, memorise for a month.)

Demo apps slightly better than certs. hello world on git hub better. Need a 5 minute cool slick interview description with buzzwords and equivalent 35hr a week work experience number if absolutely necessary. No one interviewing gets around to/has time even for screen shots.

Python. Can get very basic cert in 2 months, a lot of memorisation. 40 hrs a week.

Cybersecurity comptia a+ network security... 18 months...

Linked in... connect to me... my 1st connections I can  comment on... Indian/ ex Soviet/ Eastern Europe have no connections etc here so focus on tech experience/training cv polish.

Linked in has premium for 1 month, for free/cheap, including training. Get basic to medium... 3hr courses... excel... almost handy but be organised and get the most out of your month free...  complaint may be... costs money and little better than free courses/youtube.

(Irish graduated in computer or similar 1990 to 2000 could have got by on ok ish without a first/great summer work experience .)

Look at my connections... current oracle/ ex oracle / (direct connections to me??)

They probably at least leave their certs, job experience, courses, and work towards their skills (as long as they do not require more than a year). Skills etc wording etc can be a bit bs/chatgpt/fluffed up.

Looks at graduate jobs, junior programming or test or dba or Linux or windows or admin jobs/internships even volunteer work (to put on cv for maybe minium wage job next year).

Source of sources:

1 year etc springboard+ fetchcourses.ie

I can should do am working towards hace:

Aim for associate not very lowest developer or non developer/admin.

Oracle certs "1 month memorising"

Java oca

Dba (actually 3 exams.. starting with some sql one... might require expensive training course)

Sql

AWS... serverless... (can't remember the name I showed you basically developer associate..  the programming comes in with a but of java llamba and a bit of (JavaScript?? Web auth Cognito)).

Upskilling refreshing

Plsql (oracle procedural extentions to sql).

I have you can get free software ... maybe not for production and some restrictions low ram used etc, but fine for training.

--

Very speculation extra wish list???

Javascript

Javascript/React/frameworks (would take more than 2 months)

Electeon

Vscode

Ai

Mysql/mariadb database

Microsoft sql server has free version database

Postgres database

(Most db's look basically sql/or helper layer (hibernate??) To java/python. Admin may need more specific experience. )

Cloud (Amazon very much most preferred. Linux box on cloud only, not quite enough...)

  3. Route to medical school place for south Irish leaving cert candidate strong in Maths Physics:
(Largely copied from Pharmacist down the road... daughter in Dublin (UCD medicine) and son in Pharmacy (Trinity))

For south Ireland... you need: top 10% '90th percentile..' on HPAT aptitude test. You need very good leaving cert. There is a leaving cert cut off so in fact you don't need '6h1' 625 points (plus HPAT) at some stage for medicine excellent HPAT more important than excellent Leaving cert. Most do not absolutely require biology but good training "memory work" for medicine. Maths Physics Chemistry ... enough.

For UK: aptitude test UCAT (similar to HPAT). Apply early. October 15th?? Deadline. Interview mostly/optionally by zoom. Each medical school has slightly different policies. (5 applications 4 for medicine, 5th can be anything/filled in later. Its in case you dont get medicine. There is a last chance for places in University if you dont get anything
.. but likely nothing great ie repeat.) Some very aptitude test oriented, some very at 16 (junior cert/O level) oriented. Some require biology. (Queens Belfast requires excellent at 16 scores.)

    Details:
What my son actually got: offer for Lincoln Medical School. Slightly strange. Run by Nottingham. Last year cohort they are doing this, if he repeats a year might have to continue elsewhere. (In Nottingham?) Not 100% investigated. However assuming it was not a very bad fail I assume he will have an option to continue medical school. Offer: 6 h2. h1(90%) in either biology or chemistry. Other of the two: h2. 50%?? chance he will get it. University accomodation if you apply by 1st August.

What my son did: online materials practice papers books on aptitude tests and medical interviews. If he was to do it again/repeat the year: more of this. More test papers. Perhaps : 10 evenings for 2 hrs organised hpat course. Would be a good idea, organised by fancy school? UK medical interviews practice. More medical volunteers work? He only has 2 weeks... GP 1 week, nursing home 1 week. (ie better application... can talk about at interview...) He got 80th percentile top 20% HPAT , not quite good enough, slightly better UCAT "2800?? If memory serves"

"Pharmacist daughter doing medicine" did 40 test papers. 2 hrs each. Even with no study that is 80hrs while also doing 40 hrs a week school attendance... went from bottom 20% to top 1%...over those practice papers. She was not private school... so not very privileged etc hardworking... (cant remember_guessing_assuming not brilliant maths physics just very good/above cut off or more maybe points were... biology chemistry (other subjects) , also UCD 6 years almost pre med/science catch up...)

Cheats sometimes taken my son did not take: maybe next year:
-Repeat... not sure there is any per medical school repeat etc policy need to ring around.
-if aiming solely for south Ireland: don't do biology. It takes a lot of time memorisation, but likely needed for UK or EU non ROI application.
-go to pass on not brilliant at/not top 6 subjects (Irish? French)
-"Gonzaga very high points school historic cheat" pass mandatory subjects in 5th year. Continue pass exams on all maths physics related subjects for top 6 in 6th year. Accounts, technical drawing, applied maths, maths, physics, cannot think of "the sixth".
-very last random advice from elsewhere??? Britain easier than Ireland bur interview and NHS slightly lower salary straight after 5 year course. EU non IRL.. can't 100 % say but possible through English not quite ridiculous for Poland or Riga.

  4. Not really necessary but sister wants added.... Patrick did well. We made it hard for him. Not ridiculously into medicine/memorising/biology. Over summarising my wife: must do medicine. Not 100% sure about going to Lincoln. Manipulating Patrick...her opinion... Should do Medicine
.. would do, or at the very least could be persuaded to do if he got a place in south Ireland.

  5. My son Patrick in Medicine.

Memory work. Last Christmas meta analysis of cancer studies. A bit of stats / Data / fancy graphs / Excel might help him - no open IT requests. Excel Python sends to cloud for processing so not good for patient health data! Actually learned / practiced last 6 months : PLSQL to excel is almost not rocket science (zipped XML if you dont go overly complicated on the data/macros) SQLDeveloper worksheet does it for you exporting from the grid (internally probably Java Apache poi).
